COBURG HARRIERS athletics club

Our club began in 1896 and counts Olympic medal winners, Australian record holders and Commonwealth Games representatives among its past members.

We provide a supportive and competitive environment with qualified coaches to help you reach your athletic goals, whether you are a recreational athlete or aiming for gold.

Club members can compete in Athletics Victoria events including cross country in winter, and track and field in summer, as well as our year-round club masters track competition and our winter club cross country fixture. The club hosts regular fun runs and an annual 24-Hour Carnival which attracts international entrants.

We are committed to our mission of a friendly, inclusive and diverse club, connected to the local community. You’re welcome to come and try one of our group training sessions.

FACILITIES

Our home ground is the Harold Stevens Athletics track, surrounded by the tranquil bushland at the confluence of the Edgars and Merri Creeks.

The recently renovated clubhouse overlooks the infield discus, shotput and javelin; long jump pit, high jump and pole vault facilities. Spectators can view events from the tiered stands, protected from the sun by shade sails.

COMPETITIONS

As an Athletics Victoria (AV) affiliated club, the Coburg Harriers Athletics Club team compete in Division 2 of the Athletics Victoria Shield League (AVSL), over 10 weekends in summer, with qualifying teams progressing to a playoffs round for promotion to the Premier League. Athletes of all ages and abilities are welcome and can compete in any discipline/event they enjoy as well as various team relays throughout the season.

Athletics Victoria also hosts numerous additional competitions throughout the season to help athletes gain more competition experience and achieve Personal Bests. These are referred to as specialist meets, for example, High Velocity (100m - 400m), Rare Air (High jump and pole vault) or Throwers club (Shot put, discus and hammer throw). More information about competitions and specialist meets can found on the AV website events page.

We also have a growing contingent of cross-country runners who have recently seen great success and podium finishes during the cross-country relay events throughout winter.
